Since 2003, when Yasuko Azuma launched her own fine jewelry label, her designs have been rooted in the unexpected wonder of natural elements. Azuma describes her signature style as paying homage to the calm and joyful feelings conjured up by the inherent beauty of motifs found in floral gardens and textures, which capture the changing of seasons.
“It was very important for me to take my passion one step further and produce a collection that displays our commitment to being ecologically correct. Therefore, some of our newest cast designs are made from 100% recycled gold and silver, even though they are still not costly efficient”, explains Azuma.
Richard Ito, president of business affairs and marketing, adds, “ We can now proudly guarantee that these particular pieces are made from only the earth’s existing metal supply rather than new metals purchased from mining companies. We also continue to work with our suppliers on possibilities and solutions for chains and finished findings, so that they can one day also be guaranteed 100% recycled.” Until then, this is one way in which we can contribute our part to the preservation of the environment.”
In addition, Yasuko Azuma’ social awareness and responsibility reaches beyond their concerns for a more eco-friendly collection. Both Azuma and Ito felt it was time in the company’s growth process to get involved in “giving back.”
“We have been researching for a while now and found that there are so many worthy causes with which to be involved. But we also needed to be very focused in our decisions and make them slowly and thoughtfully,” Ito explains. “We are donating 10% of the gross proceeds from our Love&Peace and Language of Flowers collections to Unicef. We believe strongly that children are the jewels of our future. Working with an organization that helps kids is the first in many charitable steps that we are planning as we evolve.”
